Lately, the focus on balancing a user’s identity authentication has been more on convenience than it has been on security. Because of this, solutions like Windows Hello have been introduced. What is Windows Hello? It is a biometric system that has recently been incorporated into the Windows operating system. Let’s learn more.

What is Windows Hello?

Windows Hello enables users to authenticate their identities through biometric identification, instead of using a password. It was designed to be a more user-friendly experience than the use of passwords without sacrificing the security upheld with passwords. Biometric authentication uses a physical attribute of the user and compares it to one collected already in the system. This can be an iris, face match, or fingerprint that was saved into the system. If it matches, they will get access.

How Windows Hello Works

Passwords have been around almost as long as computers have, but they come with some flaws that make them less secure than you might like.

We’d never recommend disregarding passwords entirely, but the best practices when using passwords can be a lot to manage. If best practices are used, you might need to remember 100s of different complex passwords. This can be super challenging and might affect the way people choose their passwords, which will make them more insecure.

This security protocol makes it possible for users to not have to remember their passwords and can use the user’s face as a reference. It also has built-in anti-spoofing technologies which can prevent hackers from tricking the system into letting them in.

Does Windows Hello Belong in Businesses?

Paired with other security precautions and features, it is definitely something that can be implemented into the workplace to uphold security. Windows Hello should be one single part of your security strategy, not the entire thing. MyTek is here to help you come up with the best security strategy for your business.
