Amazon’s popular streaming service, Twitch, which allows content creators and gamers to broadcast their gaming for their audiences, has recently suffered a data breach. This breach revealed how much money some huge creators make and exposed another huge issue that Amazon needs to take care of. Let’s learn more about this Twitch hacking.

ZDNet reported, “A hacker leaked the entirety of Twitch’s source code alongside a 128GB trove of data that included creator payouts going back to 2019, proprietary SDKs and internal AWS services used by Twitch, as well as all of the company’s internal cybersecurity red teaming tools.” While most users focused on the earning sections, time showed that there were other major data and security issues within this problem.

Twitch offered its users advice to protect their bank accounts by resetting stream keys that were connected to them. There has been no indication of login credentials or credit card information had been exposed but it is a good idea to change these things because you can never be too careful.

This issue was because of a configuration error that left certain info exposed to the internet. Whether it was an error or negligence, errors like these can start huge data breaches. There isn’t much that can be done besides protecting your accounts.

Another huge issue that came from this event is that Twitch’s source code was revealed to the internet, which hackers can inspect for other flaws and issues. This source code can also be taken by other video streaming websites to be picked from.

This goes to show that your business needs to be vigilant and to have the top security practices. One configuration mistake like this Twitch hacking and your entire business can go down in flames.
