Tip of the Week: Working Remotely, Without Overworking Remotely

While remote work has taken over almost every single industry, it brings along with it an issue: overworking. Remote work overwork can easily happen because the lines between work and home are blurred, making it hard to stop working and relax. 

First Off: Yes, Overwork is an Issue

Overwork, although it might sound like you’d get more work done, actually causes burnout, resulting in less work being completed in the end. It can cause fatigue, anxiety and can diminish the work they are able to complete. With the pandemic forcing businesses around the globe to go remote, this problem was only exacerbated.

What can we do to fix this?

How to Help Diminish Remote Overwork

While we obviously can’t overstep boundaries and monitor our employees while they work from home, there are some policies we can put in place to help with overworking.

1. Support the Use of a Schedule

A workday routine will help your employees feel like they have time for themselves while also having time to get their daily work done. You should encourage your team to start and end work at specific times so that they aren’t answering work emails while at the dinner table or in bed getting ready to sleep. There needs to be a clear divide like there would be if they were coming to the office.

2. Use Time Tracking Tools

Time tracking is another easy way to keep your employees on task at specific times of the day. But don’t worry if you don’t have these capabilities, MyTek is here to help and can help you acquire and set them up.

3. Encourage Your Team to Speak Up

You should be open to listening to your team and should never be so intimidating that they are afraid to be honest with you. Let them know that it is okay to say no and to create boundaries for themselves so that they are not struggling with overworking.
